The Flagship Hotel took it very hard. There is no land access to the hotel, and there is a sign posing it as unsafe structure. We got better internet access on the boat today, so I posted some photos on my myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/deepsixman.

The last part of September found the Spree and I moored off Pier 21 (Willie G's basically) in Galveston. The remainder of the 2008 dive season has been cancelled to facilitate the boat's use as a platform for hurricane Ike relief. Basically we're housing the emergency responce team for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality who travels house to house and street to street looking for HAZMAT to be removed. In the meantime we of the Mighty Spree are sitting in the ship channel watching all manner of debris go back and forth in the tide. Debris includes containers, ladders, house portions, refrigerators, cattle and really just about everything you can think of that floats. Except for the appearance of the friendly dolphins everyday most of the other stories are sad. The team is working Bolivar now, and so many over there lost everything.

The featured photo here is of the Galveston Yacht Club. It's a mess as you can see.

We just got back from an excellent 4 day excursion to the DT's. This morning I dove a site in the park called Big Bommie. It was awesome, and not dived very often or even marked. There were goliath grouper and all manner of other fish everywhere. For fish density this was about as good as it gets. Sort of all made up for a painfully greasy evening spent with the Spree's 3 Detroit 1271 motors. I was cleaning the center engine, mostly with my clothes I think.

I have not been able to post many updates since being in the Dry Tortuga's. There is no high speed access for the boat, but this is an update via blackberry with a great characteristic picture of part of a reef in one of many hundreds of sites in the area. It's awesome, and it could only be better if Kelly was here with me.
